Leone Rock Metal Group (LRMG) has paid its annual surface rent payment of NLe 1,005,448 to the Sambia chiefdom and NLe 795,590 to the Dansogoia chiefdom, resulting in a total of NLe 1,801,038. This underlines LRMG’s commitment to comply with its obligations and support to local communities to foster sustainable development.
The payment ceremony was graced by prominent figures, including members of parliament, paramount chiefs, LRMG’s staff, and other local stakeholders, all gathered to witness the impact of LRMG’s contributions to their respective communities. As per the established agreement, the distribution of the surface rent will see landowners receiving 70%, the paramount chief and Constituency Development Fund each receiving 10%, and the district council also receiving 10%.
The paramount chief of Dansogoia chiefdom, PC. ABY Koroma expresses his appreciation by commending LRMG’s commitment towards their community. He further said that they are very happy, because over the years when other mining companies were operating in their localities they were not receiving such payment or commitment as owners of lands across these communities, so this is considered as a great blessing to his township and his reign as a paramount chief.
Another paramount chief from the neighboring chiefdom PC. Alhaji BFK Jalloh also said this annual surface rent has brought about a great change and impacted their community. Previously they were only paid half of their annual rent by former mining companies, but now they are receiving the full percentage of rent and with this payment they can finance and promote most of their community projects while various families also benefit directly from this payment.
As a company that cares and always gives back to society, meeting the demands and responding to our responsibilities to the people in these local communities which we are operating in, is a priority.
