In celebration of its 27th anniversary, the Liberals Brotherhood, a renowned student political fraternity at Fourah Bay College (FBC)—has launched a major campus cleaning exercise, reaffirming its core values of leadership, service, and environmental responsibility.
Operating under the anniversary theme of “Continued Leadership and Stewardship,” members of the Brotherhood took to the four corners of the hilltop campus with brooms, dustpans, and unyielding commitment. From collecting litter and sweeping pathways to tidying common areas, the exercise was both symbolic and practical, reflecting the Brotherhood’s belief that a clean environment is essential for quality education.
“We believe that a healthy learning space leads to productive minds,” said one member of the group during the exercise. “This initiative is our way of giving back to the college and showing appreciation for all it has given us.”
Beyond just cleaning, the Brotherhood demonstrated its long-term commitment to campus hygiene by donating dustbins to the college through the Office of the Warden of Students. The donation aims to sustain cleanliness efforts beyond the anniversary celebration and to promote a culture of environmental consciousness among students and staff.
The initiative drew widespread praise from both students and faculty. Many lecturers described the act as a model of student-led development and called on other campus organizations to follow the Liberals Brotherhood’s example.
“This kind of selfless act shows maturity and responsibility,” said a senior lecturer from the Faculty of Arts. “It reflects well on the students involved and contributes positively to the college’s image.”
The cleaning exercise also served as a gesture of gratitude to the academic staff, acknowledging their tireless efforts in fostering a supportive and learning-friendly environment. By taking initiative in improving the physical condition of the campus, the Liberals Brotherhood showcased a unique blend of activism, responsibility, and solidarity.
Established 27 years ago, the Liberals Brotherhood has consistently positioned itself as a leading force in student politics and campus service. Over the years, the group has played a vital role in shaping student leadership at FBC through advocacy, community engagement, and mentorship.
As they mark more than two decades of purposeful existence, members have pledged to continue championing service, development, and stewardship—both within the college and beyond.
“Our work does not stop here,” said a representative of the Brotherhood. “We will keep pushing for a better learning environment and inspire others to take ownership of our shared spaces.”
The event was not only a celebration of legacy but a reaffirmation of the Brotherhood’s commitment to meaningful student leadership—true to its mission of creating impact on and off the hilltop.
