In a challenging match at the ongoing WAFU U20 Female tournament in Senegal, the Shooting Starlets faced a tough  defeat against Liberia on Thursday 23 May 2024 by 7 goals to nile. Despite the team efforts to make things easier after playing with one player down following a red card in the first half proved to be a significant disadvantage for the entire team.

The girls showed great resilience and spirit, especially after their impressive 2-0 victory against Mauritania in their openings match.

In their first match on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024, Sierra Leone clinched victory with a 2-0 win over Mauritania. Goals from Kadiatu M. Kamara and Juliet Brima in the 41st and 43rd minutes respectively showcased the team’s dominance on the field.

This particular win for Liberia had secured their advancement to the next stage of the tournament after winning their first and second match respectively.

Coach Fatmata Turay exudes confidence in her team’s ability to triumph over Liberia, emphasizing their strength and determination to secure all three points, but unfortunately it ended in a trashing by 7 goals to nil.

Sierra Leone’s outstanding performance in the first match of the tournament is a testament to the impact of the domestic female league, but the girls failed to build on that particular performance against Liberia.

The Sierra Leone female league’s development has had a profound effect, nurturing talent and fostering a competitive spirit among female footballers nationwide.

Despite losing against Liberia, the girls have Guinea in their last match in Senegal. Let’s rally behind the team as they regroup and prepare for their next challenge. The journey continues, and we stand with the Shooting Starlets!
