Monrovia, Liberia – In a response to a disturbing video that surfaced online, the Government of Liberia has dispatched a high-level diplomatic delegation to Guinea regarding an alleged police brutality incident involving a woman of the Fulani ethnic group. The incident, linked to a legal dispute over power theft, has provoked significant regional concern and public outrage.

A release stated that the delegation, which included Ambassador-at-Large Sheikh Al-Moustapha Kouyate and Liberia’s Ambassador to Guinea, H.E. Forkpa Gizzie, recently returned from Conakry. Their mission was to express Liberia’s regret over the incident and to reaffirm the nation’s strong diplomatic ties with Guinea.

During their visit, the envoys engaged in high-level discussions with Guinea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Morissanda Kouyaté. They conveyed the concerns of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai regarding the situation. The delegation assured the Guinean government that the incident was being treated as an isolated case and confirmed that President Boakai has ordered an independent investigation to uphold accountability and transparency.

The Liberian government emphasized its commitment to the rule of law, human rights, and the protection of foreign nationals within its borders. Ambassadors Kouyate and Gizzie stressed the importance of maintaining the historic relationship between Liberia and Guinea, highlighting their dedication to regional solidarity.

In response, Minister Kouyaté voiced Guinea’s serious concerns regarding the incident and welcomed Liberia’s rapid diplomatic response. He underscored the necessity of ensuring accountability and requested prompt and transparent sharing of the investigation results.

The two foreign ministers held a further conversation on July 24, 2025, reinforcing their commitment to the strong and longstanding bilateral relationship between their countries. They agreed to monitor the investigation’s progress as they await official findings.

The Government of Liberia reiterated its dedication to justice, the protection of all individuals within its territory, and the ongoing strengthening of relations with the Republic of Guinea.
