Senior Officials of the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development have been allegedly accused of flouting and disregarding the complete and correct interpretation of the Chieftaincy Act of 2009 and move ahead to crown Daniel Raymond Kamara, aka PC Othoroneh III, as Paramount Chief of Bombali Siarry Chiefdom in Bombali District.
Reports say, the Paramount-elect Chief Othoraneh, was elected in April last year in a very controversial election.
Impeccable sources say, immediately after that election marred with irregularities, the other candidate petitioned the results.
Allegedly, Bombali District officials led by the Senior District Official (SDO), Charles Kaili, are working behind closed doors to recognize Bai Othoraneh despite the ongoing petition against him in High court in Makeni. “This move by senior state actors if not checked has the propensity to undermining legal standards and jeopardizes national integrity” a senior official at the Local government Ministry said yesterday.
According to this medium’s sources, the coronation process is a deal set up by the Local government ministry; Provincial Secretary (PS) Northeast, Alex Soriba; Senior District Officer (SDO), Charles Kaili; Coordinator of the Office of National Security (ONS) -Bombali District Miatta Saffa, which could not be held without the proper interpretation of the Local Government Act. Reports say, the elections conducted last year were marred by irregularities, with many people accusing the Ministry officials of corruption and manipulation to legitimize Kamara’s elections.
It is also reported that the embattled Paramount Chief-elect, Daniel Raymond Kamara, is facing criminal charges in the magistrate court for destroying property, including schools, mosques, water sources, as well as arson and assault following the attack on Mankneh Village on 2nd February, 2025 where he was allegedly seen in the scene of crime.
Many people in the chiefdom have warned that such actions threaten the rule of law and the safety of Sierra Leone’s citizens, calling for adherence to legal procedures and justice.
