A huge crowd turned out on Sunday, August 24, 2025, to warmly welcome the leading All People’s Congress (APC) flag bearer aspirant, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, as he arrived in Lunsar, Port Loko District, in the North-West Region to continue his engagement with party executives and grassroots supporters.
The occasion was marked by overwhelming enthusiasm as thousands of people lined the streets of the town to cheer his arrival. Supporters, many clad in red party colours, chanted slogans such as “Blessing Borbor” and “Man of the Moment,” describing Dr. Bangura as the politician who embodies their hopes for a stronger APC and a better Sierra Leone.
Lunsar, known as a political stronghold of the APC, witnessed a carnival-like atmosphere as jubilant youths, women, and elders came out in large numbers to show solidarity with the flag bearer aspirant. Traditional drumming, dancing, and singing echoed throughout the community, underscoring the excitement that Dr. Bangura’s visit generated among residents.
In his address to party members and supporters, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura expressed deep appreciation for the warm welcome and reaffirmed his commitment to serving both the APC and the country with humility, unity, and vision. He emphasized that his campaign was not about personal ambition but about building a collective movement that prioritizes the needs of Sierra Leoneans.
“I am truly grateful for this outpouring of love and support,” Dr. Bangura said. “This is not about me, but about us coming together to rebuild our party and to deliver the change our nation deserves. We must work with one voice for the betterment of Sierra Leone, not only for the APC.”
Dr. Bangura further called for discipline, respect, and inclusiveness within the party as it prepares for its forthcoming delegate elections. He stressed that the APC can only succeed if members put aside personal differences and focus on the common good. His message of unity resonated strongly with the crowd, many of whom believe that divisions within the party in recent years have weakened its political strength.
Local party executives in Port Loko District described the visit as a sign of renewed energy within the APC. One senior member noted that Dr. Bangura’s consistent outreach across the country shows his determination to connect with both the leadership and grassroots supporters of the party. “What we are witnessing today is a clear indication that our people are ready for change,” the executive said.
Supporters in Lunsar expressed optimism that Dr. Bangura’s leadership style, which blends academic knowledge with grassroots appeal, could strengthen the APC’s chances in the next national elections. Many praised his ability to connect with ordinary citizens while also articulating a vision for national development.
As the political season heats up, Dr. Bangura’s growing popularity has positioned him as a formidable contender in the APC flag bearer race. His engagements across Port Loko District are part of a broader nationwide consultation aimed at consolidating support and fostering unity within the party.
The Lunsar gathering highlighted the deep connection between Dr. Bangura and the people of Port Loko, a district that has historically played a decisive role in APC politics. With the resounding welcome he received, analysts suggest that his candidacy is gaining momentum and could shape the direction of the party ahead of the February 2026 National Delegates’ Conference-elections.
For now, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura continues to tour communities across the country, calling for a unified APC that stands ready to serve the interests of Sierra Leone.
