National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) lawyer Farakhan Sesay has last Saturday 22nd October 2022 applied for a bench warrant to arrest the proprietor of Equality Now Newspaper, Amara Eric Keifala for failure to appear court. In That light, Magistrate Isata Sellu Tucker ordered the arrest of the proprietor of Equality Now Newspaper, Amara Eric Keifala who is the 2nd defendant for failing to appear court.
Both defendants Equality Now Newspaper and Amara Eric Keifala are charged with a count of failing to pay NASSIT contributions contrary to Section 32 (1) (C) of the NSSIT Act No. 5 of 2001. According to the particulars of offence, Equally Now Newspaper and Amara Eric Keifala being an establishment and employer respectively under the NASSIT Act No. 5 of 2001, on diverse dates between March 2021, to April 2022, at No. 19 Percival Street, Freetown, did fail to pay NASSIT contributions in the sum of Seven million and One Thousand, One Hundred and Fifty Two Leones, Twenty Two Cents, for it workers to the Trust within the required period. The matter was adjourned to 29th October 2022.
