On Monday, 25th November 2024, Saidu Kamara appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2, facing a single count of murder contrary to Section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, as amended and replaced by Section 1(a) of the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2021, Act No. 6 of 2022.
The charge sheet alleges that on Thursday, 3rd October 2024, at a forest near Sussex Village along Peninsula Road, in the Western Area of Sierra Leone, the accused murdered Hassan Sesay. When the charge was read and explained, Kamara did not enter a plea.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sorie Conteh, leading the prosecution, informed the court that the prosecution’s primary witness was not present. Consequently, ASP Conteh requested the issuance of a subpoena for Denis Claye of No. 16 Gabriel Street, Sussex Village, to testify in the matter. He also sought a short adjournment for the case to proceed.
Magistrate Bangura granted the subpoena and ordered that the accused remain in custody at the Male Correctional Center in Freetown. The case was adjourned to Thursday, 28th November 2024, for further proceedings.
