A disturbing incident of mob violence unfolded in the early hours of Saturday February 7 2026 in the IDA section of Kenema City where a man was set on fire after being accused of theft. The attack has sparked public outrage and renewed calls for an end to jungle justice in communities across the country.

The victim has been identified as Ibrahim Mohamed who is currently receiving medical treatment at the Kenema Government Hospital. Mohamed sustained serious burn injuries after he was allegedly assaulted and set ablaze by two men who accused him of being involved in theft at their workplace.

Speaking from his hospital bed Mohamed recounted that the incident occurred at about 6:00 a.m. while he was on his way to work. He said he was suddenly confronted by two men who accused him of being an armed robber and responsible for stealing items from their place of work. According to him he tried to explain his innocence but was not given the opportunity to do so.

Mohamed told journalists that the assailants allegedly went as far as purchasing two liters of fuel before carrying out the attack. He said he was taken to a nearby field where he was tied down and then set on fire. Recalling the terrifying moment he said his strength faded as the flames engulfed him.

“My strength was gone. Thereafter I was on fire. Only God could help me through a bike rider who saved me from dying,” Mohamed said. He explained that a passing bike rider intervened and helped extinguish the flames before rushing him for medical assistance which he believes saved his life.

Mohamed denied the allegations leveled against him and clarified that he earns a living through informal work selling scrap iron. He maintained that he has no involvement in theft or armed robbery and appealed for justice to be done through lawful means.

The matter has since been reported to the Eastern Police who have launched an investigation into the incident. Police sources say efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack. Authorities have condemned the act and warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.

Community leaders and human rights advocates have also expressed concern over the incident describing it as a clear case of jungle justice. They are urging residents to report suspected crimes to the police rather than resorting to violence which often leads to loss of innocent lives.

As Mohamed continues to receive treatment his condition is being closely monitored by medical personnel. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of mob action and the urgent need for public education on the rule of law and respect for human rights.
