In a significant recognition of leadership and dedication to national development, the Minister of Communication, Technology and Innovation, Salma Bah, has been honored as a 2025 Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

This prestigious initiative celebrates individuals under the age of 40 demonstrating exceptional leadership potential and a commitment to shaping a more inclusive, sustainable, and forward-looking world.

The announcement of the cohort for 2025 brings together visionary leaders from various sectors, including government, technology, academia, and civil society.

Minister Bah expressed profound gratitude for being included among such a distinguished group, reflecting on the inspiring journeys of peers who are equally driven by a sense of purpose and commitment to service. “This recognition is as humbling as it is inspiring,” she stated, “and it serves as a powerful reminder of how far dedication, discipline, and a sense of purpose can propel us.”

Born and raised in Sierra Leone, Minister Bah has always been guided by a conviction that every citizen has a role to play in the nation’s development. This belief has shaped her career trajectory, from serving as a State Prosecutor in the Law Officers’ Department in 2016 to leading innovative strategic initiatives at the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI). She now embraces the responsibility of shaping the nation’s communication landscape in the role of Minister.

In addition to her personal accomplishments, Minister Bah is proud to be the second member of President Julius Maada Bio’s Cabinet to receive this esteemed honor, following Chief Minister Dr. David Sengeh. This acknowledgment not only reflects their individual paths but also highlights the broader vision of President Bio’s administration, which relentlessly champions youth empowerment, innovation, and inclusive governance. “We thank His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio for providing us with the platform to showcase that the youth are prepared to be the leaders of today,” she emphasized.

The World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders initiative has long been recognized for its role in shaping future leaders who are intent on making a positive impact. The selection process involves rigorous evaluation, ensuring that each recognized leader possesses the capability and vision to effect change on both local and global scales. For her, this recognition is not just a personal milestone; it symbolizes the extraordinary talent, resilience, and promising future of Sierra Leone on the global stage.

“Being selected as a Young Global Leader is not solely about personal achievements,” Madam Bah reflected, “but a testament to the relentless spirit of our nation, which continues to emerge from challenges with unwavering tenacity.” Her work is driven by the commitment to harness the potential of technology and communication in advancing socioeconomic development, especially for the youth.

This accolade shines a light on the growing recognition of Sierra Leone’s potential on international platforms. As she assumes this role, the focus will remain on fostering innovation and inclusive policies that resonate with the needs of today’s young generation. “I am honoured to represent not just myself, but the dreams and aspirations of young Sierra Leoneans,” she concluded.

As the global community anticipates the contributions of this year’s Young Global Leaders, it is clear that Sierra Leone is increasingly viewed as a hub of talent and innovation, with leaders who are dedicated to driving positive change.

The future holds promise, and with leaders like Madam Bah at the forefront, Sierra Leone is poised to play an influential role in the global discourse on development and progress.
