Multi-purpose Hall, CCSL Compound, King Harman Road,Freetown, Tuesday August 23,2022–The Ministry of Energy in collaboration with the World Bank has made payments in the form of compensations to some sixty-three (63) project affected persons in urban and rural Freetown in line with the Energy Sector Utility Reform Project. The exercise represents the second phase of compensations after the first set of fifty-five (55) project affected persons had been compensated in June this year.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director General of EDSA, Abu Kamara, said the project was one that was dedicated to massively improving the distribution and transmission infrastructure, noting that it was therfore imperative for the affected persons to collaborate with the Ministry of Energy and the World Bank.

He said the World Bank had been approached to provide funds for the compensation of affected persons, stressing that 63 property owners would receive their full compensation packages, while the remaining amount owed to the first set of 55 persons as a result of foreign exchange differentials would also be paid.

Mr. Kamara called on the people to give their fullest cooperation and support to the project, adding that the Ministry as well as the World Bank was fully committed to implementing the transformative energy project.

Chief Director of Energy, Ing. Benjamin Kamara, gave an overview of the many energy projects that the Ministry had set itself the target of implementing, citing the expansion in solar mini grids at chiefdom levels as one of the hallmark accomplishments of the Minister of Energy.

General Project Coordinator at the Ministry of Energy, Ing. Dr. Edmund Wuseni spoke about the scope and the significance of the Energy Sector Utility Reform Project, ESURP, and warned affected persons against mischief making by way of receiving the compensation and refusing or delaying to leave.
