Freetown, January 20, 2026 (SLENA)-A solemn delegation from the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) extended its sympathies directly to the family of the late Professor Joseph Aruna Lawrence Kamara. His passing on 10 December 2025, at 71, moved officials to honor his profound contributions toward academia and national development.
Speaking for the Ministry, Minister Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie emphasized their presence reflected the deep esteem held for Professor Kamara’s service. She celebrated a lifetime devoted to academia and public service, describing the University of Sierra Leone as a familial institution that received his finest years. Dr. Wurie recalled his steadfast leadership during the university’s most challenging chapters, noting his unwavering readiness to serve, including a committed later role at the Eastern Technical University.
She portrayed Professor Kamara as a selfless figure, deeply invested in mentoring and building professional capacity across the nation. Personally, she regarded him as a guiding mentor whose influence shaped her own academic and professional path. While acknowledging the grief surrounding his loss, Dr. Wurie expressed the Ministry’s acceptance of divine will and confidence that he had completed his life’s purpose.
The Minister assured the family of MTHE’s steadfast support throughout their mourning, offering both prayers and practical assistance. Presenting a symbolic token toward funeral expenses, she highlighted this gesture as one of solidarity. Dr. Wurie affirmed that Professor Kamara’s legacy would live on through the institutions he fortified and the countless individuals he guided, urging all beneficiaries to honor his memory by advancing his work.
