The Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) ended its second Inter-Hall Track and Field Athletics Sports Meet on Saturday 18th March 2023 at its Athletics Field, Goderich in Freetown.
The event was held under the Distinguished Grand Chief Patronage of Professor Alpha Wurie, Minister of Technical and Higher Education. Lumley Hall (Green) emerged winners of the competition with 239 points and winning Le3 thousand new Leones donated by Dr. Lusanie Dankona, a hydro engineer and ex-student.
In second position was Lakka Hall (Red) with 225 points, third Adonkia Hall (Yellow) with 220 points and fourth Juba Hall (Blue) with 197 points and bagging Le. 1 thousand new Leones.
Earlier, the Head of Department, Physical Health Education Department, MMTU, Mr Joseph Nyallay revealed that the MMTU University Senate is working hard to elevate the status of MMTU, hoped the sports meet would be successful and wished all a successful meet.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor and Director of Academic Affairs, MMTU, Dr. Mohamed Alie Jalloh revealed that MMTU has some of the best athletes in the country who would be identified for the Inter-Versity Sports that would soon be held and appealed to all to accept the results and comport themselves in a dignified manner.
Sento Bangura and Daniel Turay were the best female and male athletes for which they won Le500 respectively while Juba Hall was the best behaved.
Some of the field and track events were the 5000 meters for men and women, 4×100 meters relay, 1,500 meters relay, 100 meters tug of peace, javelin, discuss, long jump, all house relay and shot put.
Presentation of prizes and certificates and lightning of the Olympic Touch by Dr. Mohamed Alie Jalloh symbolizing light and greatness in addition to dispelling all forms of cheating, karate performance, taking of the oath by athletes and judges who among others promised to participate in the sports respecting, abiding by the rules and regulations governing them without doping for the glory of sports, climaxed the event.
