The Reigning Champion of the Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League, Mogbwemo Queens has taken their lead at the top of the Sierra Leone Women’s League after defeating their main challenger, FC Kallon Female by 2 goals to 1.
This all important encounter between the team in the first position Mogbwema Queens, and FC Kallon Female in the second position took place on Friday, 9th February 2024, at the Angola town field.
In a highly anticipated Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League (WPL) clash this last Friday, FC Kallon Female took the lead in the 20th minutes of play by their young star Kumba Zaniab Brima. Kumba’s goal helped FC Kallon Female to secure a first half lead.
However, the defending champions Mogbwemo Queens came very strong in the second half of play where they created a lot of chances and the finally got their breakthrough in the 75 minutes of play where they got their equalizer and later got their winning goal.
Before the match FC Kallon Female team were on the 2nd position with 18 points and they have been impressive this season with just one lost in their 7 match played, and they have been showcasing their team prowess and scoring sensational goals in the Women’s League. FC Kallon were anticipating for all three points which could have seen them going above the Mogbwemo Queens at the top by goals different, but they defending champions were so resilience and determine for the three points which they took at the end of the day at Angola field.
Mogbwema Queens before their match against FC Kallon female, they had played 7 matches and they have won all 7 and they have extended it to 8 games winning without a single draw which shows how formidable their team is in the women’s League. FC Kallon female didn’t capitalize on their home advantage and momentum to close the gap on the Queens, who hold a narrow lead with 24 points at the top.
In an ugly development, the central referee was physically attacked by unknown football fans at the end of the match which has led the Women’s Premier League Board to come up with a press release in relation to the ugly incident.
The Board vehemently condemned the act and promised to lunch investigation towards the incident that occurred at Angola Field between Mogbwema Queens and FC Kallon.
