Maryland, USA – The Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MoICE) has successfully concluded its Civic Day Series on Tuesday, 30th September, 2025 in New Carrolton, Maryland, United States, marking another milestone in its commitment to “bringing government closer to the people, home and abroad”

The event brought together Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora, government representatives, and community leaders for open dialogue on national development, civic responsibility, and the importance of unity. It served as a platform for citizens abroad to engage directly and exchange ideas with the government, share their concerns and ideas, and contribute meaningfully to Sierra Leone’s progress.

Delivering the keynote address during the opening session, Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh underscored the importance of civic engagement as a driver of national unity and sustainable development. He urged Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora to remain active participants in the nation’s transformation, noting that government policies are strengthened when they reflect the voices of both citizens at home and abroad.

Information and Civic Education Minister Chernor Bah reiterated that the Civic Day Series is designed to bridge the gap between government and citizens, ensuring transparency, accountability, and inclusion. He emphasized that Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora are an integral part of the nation’s development journey. He also reassured Sierra Leoneans living in the United States that their voices matter and that the government remains committed to policies that reflect their needs and aspirations.

Participants praised the initiative and also commended MoICE for extending the Civic Day Series beyond Sierra Leone’s borders, describing it as a meaningful opportunity for the diaspora to connect with the government. Many expressed optimisms that such engagements will continue to foster stronger ties between Sierra Leoneans at home and those abroad.

With the successful wrap-up of the Maryland edition, the Civic Day Series continues to be recognized as a transformative platform for dialogue, civic responsibility, and inclusive nation-building. It is being hailed as a resounding success – one that amplifies voices across communities and reinforces civic responsibility as a cornerstone for national progress.
