The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) continues to prioritize the development and growth of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Sierra Leone. As part of its efforts to stay updated on the progress and needs of these institutions, MTHE has held a meeting with Vice Chancellors and Principals.

The meeting served as a platform for the Ministry and the HEIs to discuss key issues that are essential in the smooth running of these institutions.

The Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Sarjoh Aziz-Kamara, emphasized the importance of collaboration and communication between the Ministry and the HEIs, describing the meeting as a gathering of a family where they would engage on the current state of affairs and determine the Ministry’s readiness to support the institutions.

One of the main topics of discussion during the meeting was the calendar of events for the academic year. The Vice Chancellors and Principals provided updates on the progress made in terms of scheduling exams, research activities, and digital learning. This is crucial as it ensures that students receive a quality education and progress in their academic endeavours. The Ministry also emphasized the significance of adhering to the agreed academic calendar to avoid any disruption in the students’ education.

The meeting also addressed the issue of graduation ceremonies for the year 2024, Budget Calls for the year 2025, extra charges, and the state of laboratory equipment in the institutions.
