Magistrate Mark Ngegba Pademba Road Court No1, on Monday 22 August 2022 refused bail and remanded the accused person Kasim Wattfa for alleged murder of staff sergeant of RSLAF Mohamed Barrie.The accused Kasim Wattfa is under preliminary investigation for four count charges ranging from murder, wounding, and assault contrary to law.
According to the offense, on Tuesday 17 May 2022, at Davies Drive, Hill Station in Freetown the accused murdered Staff Sergeant 18172012 Mamoud Barrie. The accused also maliciously wounded and assaulted Sergeant 18181414, Samuel Tucker, in a manner thereby occasioning actual bodily harm.
It would be recalled that on 12 July 2022, Magistrate Ngegba granted an application made by the defence Counsel Francis Gabbidon Esq. that the accused person should be sent to the Kissy Psychiatric Hospital for thirty days for the accused to be observed or treated, since he was alleged to have unsound mind.
However the defence counsel informed the court that the order of the bench has not been complied with; therefore he urged the Bench to act upon the side order.
Having heard his submission, Magistrate Ngegba instructed the Prosecutor and the Deputy Assistant Registrar to do a follow-up at the Psychiatric hospital and the Correctional Centre for the accused to be examined as against Monday 29 August 2022. Magistrate Ngegba adjourned the matter to Monday 29 August 2022.
