Sierra Leone is set to embark on the third round of its polio vaccination campaign, aiming to immunize an estimated 1.5 million children under five across 14 districts.

In a recent press conference, the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Agency (NPHA) highlighted the importance of the campaign in the ongoing fight to eradicate polio, a preventable disease that can cause lifelong paralysis. Despite global efforts, polio remains a serious public health concern in the country, making widespread vaccination critical.

The vaccination drive will take place from September 27th to 30th and will cover key districts across Sierra Leone. Following this phase, additional rounds will target the Western Area Urban and Rural regions to ensure comprehensive coverage.

The NPHA has called on parents nationwide to ensure their children are vaccinated during this crucial period. By participating, families can not only protect their own children but also contribute to Sierra Leone’s broader efforts to rid the country of polio once and for all.

The government and health partners remain committed to reaching every corner of the country, with the ultimate goal of completely eradicating polio and securing a healthier future for Sierra Leone’s children.
