The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA), Office of National Security (ONS), and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) in a joint public notice are set to enforce compliance with the ID Card Laws. The release further states that effective January 1 2025 the security apparatus including the Sierra Leone Police will start effective and vigorous check for National ID Cards and ECOWAS ID cards for citizens and non-citizens across all security check points with in the country.
The release is also calling on government institutions that are rendering services to the general public that require the use of ID cards to enforce the laws by demanding their ID cards. The Director General NCRA Mohamed M Massaquoi emphasize that heads of government and private institutions must ensure that all transactions in banks. Bereau, sim registrations, acquisition of business licenses, Land registration, vehicle registration, enrolments in educational institutions, Immigration Department and other important transactions must require the use of National ID Cards. Mr Massaquoi is calling in citizens to continue taking their ID cards as it is a continuous process as the enforcement process kicks soonest.
