Freetown, Sierra Leone, John Duru, Alias Oga John, a Fifty three years old house agent and a Nigerian National on Thursday, 24 October, 2024, made another appearance for the continuation of his trial before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No.1 was granted bail.
The accused was arraigned on two count charges to wit conspiracy to commit a crime contrary to law and obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 32 1 of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offense, on a date between 1 January to September 6 2024, at Percival Street, Western Area, Freetown with intent to defraud, conspired together with other persons unknown to commit a crime to obtaining money by false pretence.
Count two further stated that on the above date and place, the accuse person, wit intent to defraud obtained the sum of Two hundred and Fifty-Nine Thousand Leone Four Hundred (259,400) from Isatu Idrissa Mansary by falsely pretending that he would provide Ireland Visa and at the same time facilitate her travel to said point knowing same to be false.
The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ibrahim S. Mansaray sought for a short adjournment date because his witness was absent.
The defense counsel made application on behalf of the accuse person, he is not a Sierra Leonean but resident in Freetown. He has a reliable surety who are willing to and ready to stand in recognize on his behalf. He will not interfere with prosecution witness or witnesses nor will he jump bail. She made her application pursuant to section 79 3 of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Kekura granted bail to the accused person in the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Leones (NLe500, 000) with two sureties who should be residents in Freetown with the national identity card.
However, the case has been adjourned to 31 October, 2024, for further proceedings.
