Hon. Daniel Brima Koroma, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, has sharply criticized the Bio-led government for its failure to tackle the critical issues facing Sierra Leone. During the April 2, 2025 All Peoples Congress (APC) party’s monthly press conference, Koroma described the government as “incompetent” in managing national concerns, pointing out that many of the country’s problems have been exacerbated by the administration itself.
Koroma emphasized that the Bio administration’s inability to resolve the country’s key issues, particularly in sectors like education and public infrastructure, was undermining the progress and well-being of Sierra Leoneans. “There is no hope for Sierra Leoneans as long as the SLPP (Sierra Leone People’s Party) continues to govern,” he stated. Koroma’s criticism centered on what he believes is a mismanagement of national resources, leading to continued hardship for ordinary citizens.
One of the major concerns Koroma addressed during the press conference was the lack of accountability in handling the country’s resources. He accused the Bio administration of failing to implement effective governance practices that could deliver tangible improvements to Sierra Leonean lives. “The Bio administration is simply not up to the task,” he said, highlighting that the government’s approach to addressing public concerns has been ineffective and lacking in foresight.
Additionally, Koroma responded to a circulating rumor about the potential sale of the Fourah Bay College property, which has sparked significant public interest. The rumor suggests that the government may sell the college’s property to interested buyers, a move that Koroma warned could have dire consequences for the education sector. “This is a move that should not be taken lightly,” Koroma cautioned, adding that the sale of Fourah Bay College’s property could further hinder the already struggling education system. The opposition leader linked this potential action to the broader issues of mismanagement within the education sector, noting that the government’s failure to provide adequate facilities and opportunities for students is detrimental to the nation’s future.
Koroma also highlighted the government’s failure to ensure that innocent schoolchildren had the opportunity to sit for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). According to Koroma, the administration’s neglect led to numerous schoolchildren being denied the opportunity to sit their exams, further disadvantaging them in the competitive global job market. “This government’s yearly failure to allow poor and innocent schoolchildren to sit for WASSCE is a clear sign of their incompetence,” he remarked.
The opposition leader also pointed to the ongoing issue of corruption within the government, accusing the administration of prioritizing personal gain over the welfare of the people. Koroma stressed that Sierra Leone’s development would continue to be stunted as long as the government remained in power, with little regard for the country’s dire need for transformative leadership.
Koroma concluded by reiterating his call for a change in leadership, urging Sierra Leoneans to demand accountability and good governance from their elected officials. “It is time for a change,” Koroma said, “a change that will focus on the people and their needs, not just the selfish interests of a few.”
The APC party’s press conference showcased the ongoing tensions between the opposition and the Bio administration, as political leaders continue to challenge the government’s ability to lead the country towards a prosperous future.
