The Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Param Umar Tarawally on Thursday 14th July 2022, on behalf of the Parliament of Sierra Leone, received ten desktop computers from one of the leading mobile telecommunication companies, Orange Sierra Leone.
In his opening statement, the Director of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Joseph Conteh said the donations of the computers were made to enhance the initiatives of an Open Parliament, in light of the Memorandum of Understanding between the former and the latter. According to him, the donations were made through the dynamic moves of the Hon. Clerk.
Orange Sierra Leone Head of Public Relations/ Corporate Social Responsibility, Annie Wonnie Katta expressed happiness and recalled how the donations came about. She categorically stated that they as an organization believed in digital inclusion. According to her, the donations were part of their corporate social responsibility and expressed hope for a strong relationship, relative to the MOU.
In his remarks, the Hon. The clerk of Parliament described the day as a defining moment. He re-echoed that, the donations came through the good leadership drive of the Hon. Speaker of Parliament. He applauded the company for its timely support and referred to them as a great partner. He recalled that some two months ago, they were in desperate need of computers. “On behalf of the Speaker of the Parliament of Sierra Leone and the entire leadership of Parliament and staff, I extend our deepest thanks to the company” he maintained. He assured the company of the MOU and went on to reassure them of the proper utility of the items.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the Deputy Director of the Department of Programs Research and Partnership (DePReP), Mrs. Nancy Jalloh
