Orange Foundation has on Thursday 16 June 2022 symbolically joined the rest of the world in the commemoration of this year’s Day of the African Child (DAC), with children drawn from several schools in Freetown and beyond with the theme; “Eliminating Harmful Practices Affecting Children”.

Marking this memorable moment also known as the International Day African Child, Orange Foundation lined up its headquarters on 25 Regent Road, Hill Station with activities for Freetown children.

Among the girls’ performance were dedicated dancing, singing and walks to the Marketing, Orange Foundation, Orange 4G Network, Finance and the Human Resource departments of the company, whilst the boys’ secession featured performances from Freetown, Waterloo, Bo, Moyamba, Bombali, Kambia and Tonkolili districts.

Giving brief background about the Day of the African Child-DAC, also known as the International Day of the African Child, the Project Manager Orange Foundation, Desmond Spaine accurately defined the then white supremacist as an apartheid regime in South Africa, under which so many school children across that country were killed by the police on 16 June 1976.

He recalled that the peaceful demonstration of children from various schools were merely calling on the authorities for them to be taught in their own language Afrikaana in black schools in South Africa. He said in Sierra Leone Orange Foundation will join in calling for more quality education for children.

Spaine paid glowing tributes to children who lost their lives during the course of the June 16 1976 Soweto Uprising. He used the occasion and encouraged all to end discriminations in all forms against albinism as albinos are going through severe problems in their communities.

Milton Margal School for the Blind thrilled their companions with several melodious songs and performances.

In their motivational and career talks, representatives of the Human Resource Department, Orange SL, Raymond Gbla and Ghina Wansa, engaged the children on the roles and responsibilities of their unit.

The Project Management Officer, Morenikeh Taylor Orange SL Digital Transformation took the children through the company’s digital transformation, as she explained the innovative offers being provided in diverse sectors by the digital transformation through mobile applications including that of Orange SL.
