The outgoing Spanish Ambassador to Sierra Leone and Guinea with a resident in Guinea Conakry, His Excellency Cristian Font Calderon has bade farewell to the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mrs. Francess P. Algali in her office today.
Ambassador Calderon in his farewell message thanked the Government and people of Sierra Leone for a successful tenure and the opportunity he had with various government ministers including the Foreign Affairs Minister Musa Timothy Kabba and other officials during his stay.
His Excellency Cristian Calderon said that the election of Sierra Leone in the non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council shows improvement in the country’s human rights record and democratic governance. He therefore called on the Government to continue the dialogue and peace initiative with the opposition parties for lasting peace in the country.
Ambassador Calderon highlighted areas of bilateral cooperation Spain and Sierra Leone have been enjoying in the past and assured that his successor will ensure Spanish companies continued investments in the country.
The Acting Foreign Minister, Francess P. Algali thanked the outgoing Ambassador and the Spanish Government for considering Sierra Leone as a worthy partner in development.
Addressing ongoing investigations on the failed November 26th coup, she thanked the European Union and other regional bodies for standing in solidarity with the Government of Sierra Leone and said that President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has promised to address the matter using existing laws.
The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding democratic values, respect for human rights, and the ongoing implementation of the Peace dialogue recommendations.
Minister Algali said that the Government is now focusing on the realization of the Big Five agenda which includes Feed Salone, energy, and human capital development. This according to the Minister brings investment opportunities for multinational companies in Spain as the government remains committed to protecting foreign direct investment.
“On behalf of the Government and People of Sierra Leone, we wish you well in your new endeavour and we look forward to receiving your successor.
“Sierra Leone remains committed to upholding the existing bilateral relations with Spain,” the Acting Foreign Affairs Minister said.
