Honourable Members of Parliament on Thursday 09/10/2025 mourned the sudden demise of Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma from Tonkor Limba, Kambia District, He was involved in a fatal accident in which his vehicle sommersaulted and resulted in his death together with his driver along Freetown-Masiaka highway.
In his tribute, the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Abdul Kargbo described the late MP as a committed advocate for national development. He highlighted his efforts and contributions toward the development of his district and people, amounting to Billion of Leone. “Hon. Ernest has launched so many projects for his people,” he said. He advised Members of Parliament to keenly monitor their drivers in order to prevent further disasters in the future.
The acting Leader of Government Business,, Hon. Bashiru Silikie, in his tribute, he said at least three Members of Parliament are waiting to be buried. He asked MPs to be vigilant and careful in their daily activities for purposes of prioritising safety. He described Hon. Ernest Dura as devoted and committed to all committee meetings in Parliament. He added that the Parliament of Sierra Leone would sorely miss him, considering his commitments to national service.
He continued by extending his condolences to the bereaved families of Hon. Patricia Browne and Hon. Helen Kuyembeh, who were dedicated former Members of Parliament from Kambia and Bo Districts. Hon. Bashiru Silikie ended up calling on all Members of Parliament to see themselves as colleagues and family members, saying, “Let’s see ourselves as brothers and sisters, and please let’s be united,” he affirmed his call for devotion, care and unity amongst Members of Parliament.
The Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas joined mourners and family members by expressing his deepest sympathy and condolences at this moment of grief on behalf of all the Members of Parliament. He reiterated the need for Members of Parliament to prioritise their personal safety well-being both in and out of Parliament.
