Following the failure of the Anti-Corruption Commission to come out with a report on the vehicle fraud at Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, the Public Account Committee (PAC) on Tuesday June 25th has picked up US$ 140,000 Vehicle fraud at the Bank involving the Managing Director of the Bank.
It is widely reported that the purchase for the said vehicle from the Managing Director did not go through proper procurement processes.
Chairman for the Public Account Committee who is also the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh asked the MD to tell the committee the kind of vehicle that was bought for him.
Yusif Silla (Managing Director) told the committee that the vehicle was bought in 2023 and that he was compensated for the good work by the board.
Hon. Conteh asked about procurement of the vehicle, the contractor, the supplier, the shipment, the delivering and all documents pertaining the vehicle because the money is so huge to buy one vehicle.
Silla respond that the procurement officer was not available at the PAC meeting that was held but Hon. Conteh asked him on the next adjourned date to bring the procurement officer.
Hon. Conteh advised the Managing Director and Deputy Managing Director to seat with senior management and look in the auditor general response because fraud is increasing at the bank
He pointed that they should stop recruiting staff based on recommendation of outsiders, advising that they should not always take recommendations made by politicians or other people but look for people that are capable.
