The All People’s Congress has outlined its roadmap toward holding a national convention to elect new executive members and a flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election, while clarifying issues surrounding party membership and internal processes.
Speaking on behalf of the party, a member of the APC’s Communications Team, Abdul Karim Kamara Esq said preparations for the convention are well advanced but have been temporarily delayed due to ongoing petitions before the Political Parties Regulation Commission. He stressed that the party remains committed to a transparent and democratic process and will proceed as soon as the regulatory matters are resolved.
According to Mr Kamara, the APC leadership has already developed a clear framework for the convention which includes timelines for branch district regional and national activities. He explained that these steps are necessary to ensure broad participation and legitimacy in the election of new executive members and the party’s presidential flagbearer for the 2028 polls.
He emphasized that the delay should not be misinterpreted as a lack of readiness or internal disagreement within the party. Instead he described it as a matter of compliance with national regulations and respect for the authority of the Political Parties Regulation Commission. He added that the APC is engaging the commission through lawful channels to address all outstanding concerns.
Addressing claims circulating in some quarters Kamara dismissed assertions that the party’s 2018 and 2023 presidential candidate Dr Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara is not an active member of the APC. He described such claims as misleading and unfounded.
Kamara stated that Dr Samura Kamara remains a loyal and active member of the party who continues to contribute to its growth and strategic direction. He noted that the former flagbearer has consistently upheld the values of the APC and has remained engaged with party structures and supporters.
The Publicity Secretary urged party members and the general public to disregard misinformation aimed at creating confusion or division within the party. He said the APC remains united and focused on rebuilding its structures and positioning itself for victory in the 2028 general elections.
He also called on supporters to remain patient and law abiding as the party works through the current regulatory process. According to him adherence to due process is essential to protecting the integrity of the party and ensuring that the outcome of the convention is widely accepted.
Kamara reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to internal democracy inclusiveness and accountability. He said once the issues before the PPRC are resolved the party will promptly announce a date for the national convention and move forward with the election of its leadership.
He concluded by assuring members that the APC leadership remains resolute in its determination to strengthen the party and offer credible leadership to Sierra Leone, adding that unity and discipline will remain central to achieving the party’s long term political objectives.
