The Director of Operations at the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) AIG Amadu Mannah has disclosed to press men on Thursday 14 July 2022 at the usual Police Press Conference on George Street Freetown that ten suspects are currently in police custody in connection with a riotous conduct that took place at Yannah Village (Tambahka) in Yobangie Chiefdom wherein one person was pronounced dead. AIG Mannah stated that the matter is still under investigation.
He furthered that the rumours of threats to disrupt the Parliamentary sittings during the Public Elections Bill debate, police were called upon to provide adequate security to enable accredited members of Parliament to access the well of Parliament for a peaceful and successful debate.
In other developments, Police Freetown West Regional Commander, Commissioner Manfred Victor Williams, said that two suspects – one Omo Mahoi of Beach Road in Lumley and Jusu Koroma ofNo.5 Job Street, Kissy – were arrested during a parliamentary debate with kouch, knife and pepper spray.
Williams also stated that on 9 July 2022, one John Kanu of No 4 Hilltop Freetown reported that a concrete fence that collapsed on a makeshift structure injured and killed twenty-four-year-old Fatmata Sesay, and twenty-year-old Adama Kanu, while two-year-old Fatmata Kargbo and sixty-five-year-old John Kanu of the same address sustained injuries.
He furthered that on 14 July 2022, one Sheku Ndawah of No.5 Hannah Ben-Coker Street and two others were arrested at Parliament while trying to remove the outdoor AC unit.
