The Sierra Leone Police have arrested several suspects in connection with an armed robbery that took place weeks ago at a filling station along the Kabala Highway in Makeni, Northern Province, according to reliable security sources.

The robbery, which occurred at one of the busiest fuel stations on the highway, caused fear and panic among workers and motorists who were present at the time. The incident drew strong public concern, particularly from residents and commuters who regularly use the Kabala Highway, a major transport route linking Makeni to other parts of the Northern Province.

Following the attack, police in Makeni launched an intensive investigation aimed at identifying and apprehending those responsible. The operation involved intelligence gathering, surveillance, and coordinated follow up actions by security personnel. These efforts have now resulted in the arrest of individuals believed to be directly involved in the robbery.

Although police authorities have not yet released the names of the suspects or detailed the circumstances surrounding their arrest, sources confirmed that the suspects are currently in police custody. They are said to be cooperating with investigators as inquiries continue. Police have also indicated that more arrests may be made as investigations progress.

The armed robbery had raised serious concerns about security around commercial facilities, particularly filling stations, which often handle large cash transactions. The incident also highlighted the vulnerability of businesses located along major highways where traffic is heavy and movement is constant.

Residents of Makeni have welcomed the arrests, describing them as a positive step toward restoring public confidence in security across the city. Some residents said the development shows that sustained police investigations can yield results, even when cases take time to resolve.

Community members have, however, called on the Sierra Leone Police to go beyond arrests by strengthening routine patrols and preventive measures. Many are urging the police to increase visibility around fuel stations, markets, and other commercial centers, especially during late hours when criminal activity is more likely to occur.

Transport operators and motorists who use the Kabala Highway have also expressed relief, noting that the road is vital for trade and movement. They said improved security along the route would encourage safer travel and reduce fear among road users.

The Sierra Leone Police are expected to issue an official statement in the coming days to provide clarity on the arrests and outline the next steps in the investigation and prosecution process. The statement is also expected to address public concerns and reassure residents of continued efforts to combat armed robbery and other serious crimes.

Security analysts note that armed robbery remains a challenge in urban and semi urban areas, often driven by economic hardship and limited surveillance infrastructure. They stress that cooperation between the police and local communities is essential in preventing such crimes.

As investigations continue, police have urged the public to remain calm and to share any useful information that could assist law enforcement efforts. This story remains developing, and further updates will be provided as more details become available.
