Police in Makeni City, Bombali District, led by AIG Monfred Williams, have been allegedly accused of harassing and humiliating a former United Nations (UN) diplomat and philanthropist, Dr. Roland Turay, over an alleged letter he wrote to the Office of National Security (ONS) District Coordinator, Josephine Miatta Saffa.
According to impeccable sources, Dr. Roland has requested the ONS boss to retract a statement she earlier made in certain quarters against his person that, he (Dr. Roland Turay) is “Destroying the image of Bombali District.
In his letter, the former UN Diplomat explained that by making that statement, Madam Josephine has put “his life at risk.”
In reaction after receipt of the letter, Madam Saffa allegedly in league with some members of the District Security Committee (DISEC), of which AIG Monfred Williams is also a member, took the letter to the Mena Police and officially reported Dr. Roland.
Subsequently, Dr. Roland was invited to the police station; and upon his arrival, was arrested and detained in a police cell.
On the following day, it was alleged that the former UN diplomat was whisked off to the CID Headquarters in Freetown where he was also incarcerated for another four days.
In Freetown, reports say the philanthropist was released after the CID officers thorough investigations found out that there was no evidence to corroborate the statement of the ONS District Boss of “Cyber stalking and bullying.”
When contacted at his Mena Hills office yesterday, AIG Monfred Williams denied any bullying of Dr Roland. He said he received an order from ONS Headquarters in Freetown to investigate Cybercrime and that was what he did.
