A Nigerian complainant, Onyeka Obasi Umeji has lauded an Intelligent Officer attached at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Sierra Leone Police for coming to his aid when the was attacked by alleged kidnappers at Golf Club, Beach Road, Lumley West of Freetown. He made the commendation during his first appearance before Magistrate Mark Ngegba, of Court No.1, Freetown.
He told the court that he was kidnapped by the accused person Prince Okafour and other unknown persons dressed in police uniforms.
He narrated that he came to know the first accused through telephone calls informing him that his friend named Augustine is in police custody.
He referred to the first accused as the ringleader who persuaded him to meet them at Golf Club, Beach Road, Lumley where he disclosed that he was captured and tortured and attempted to remove his wallet that contained $80, 000.
“I was rescued by the community people and one Intelligent Officer attached to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Sierra Leone Police”, narrated Onyeka Obasi Umeji.
Whiles at the police station, he continues, “I was called again by the first accused Prince Okafour to meet them at an agreed location on the pretext of giving them three Thousand United States Dollars.
Okafour and seven others wasted no time to reach the agreed location that eventually led to his arrest.
Okafour is currently on bail, prosecuting the matter is Lawyer Y. I. Sesay.
Also at the Freetown Magistrate Court No1, seven former military officers were sent on remanded at the Male Correction Centre in Freetown on allegations of operating a security agency without valid license contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
Also, one Ahamadu Sesay, a businessman was granted multiple bails at the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1.
The accused on several occasion obtained Thousands of Leones from persons on the pretext that he, Ahamadu Sesay will facilitates travelling for them to Italy, which according to the police proved to be false. The matter was adjoined for further hearing.
