President Julius Maada Bio has summoned an emergency parliamentary session set for Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 10:00 AM, as announced by the Clerk of Parliament. This special sitting follows the mandate of Section 86 (1) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, which empowers the President to summon Parliament when necessary. All Members of Parliament are expected to be present for this crucial meeting.

Ahead of the parliamentary sitting, lawmakers are instructed to attend a pre-legislative meeting on Monday, October 14, 2024, regarding the proposed “Child Rights Act.” This bill is aimed at advancing the rights and welfare of children in Sierra Leone, reinforcing the government’s ongoing commitment to addressing child protection and policy reform.

These sessions reflect the administration’s focus on child rights legislation, a priority for the government, which seeks to make significant strides in the legislative framework supporting vulnerable populations. The proposed Child Rights Act is expected to prompt lively debate and engagement among lawmakers, with far-reaching implications for Sierra Leone’s future development.
