President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has received a detailed report on a roadmap aimed at resolving the long-standing conflict between the landowners of Sahn Malen Chiefdom and the Socfin Agricultural Company. The dispute, which has lasted over thirteen years, stems from the company’s acquisition of the Sierra Leone Produce Marketing Board (SLPMB) plantation in 2010.

In a meeting with committee members on the peace initiative, President Bio expressed his gratitude for their dedication to finding a lasting resolution. He acknowledged the efforts made by the stakeholders and assured them of his full support in implementing the proposed roadmap.

Honourable Shiaka Musa Sama, who represents the aggrieved landowners of Sahn Malen, praised the President’s timely intervention. He highlighted the severe consequences of the conflict, including violent clashes, mass arrests, detentions, and loss of lives and property between 2010 and 2018. Sama emphasized that while previous attempts to resolve the dispute had been made, the concerns of the landowners were often ignored. Despite numerous unfulfilled promises by Socfin Agricultural Company, Sama expressed optimism that the President’s involvement would ensure the successful implementation of the peace plan.

In his address, President Bio acknowledged the challenges faced by the community and emphasized the importance of peace for continued development. He admitted that past mismanagement had worsened the situation, but urged all parties to prioritize peaceful coexistence. The President called on both Socfin and the landowners of Sahn Malen to engage in constructive dialogue and cooperation for the benefit of the region’s long-term development and stability.

Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh elaborated on the details of the peace roadmap, noting that it was developed under President Bio’s leadership and focused on fostering both peace and development. Dr. Sengeh commended the people of Sahn Malen for their active participation in dialogues, demonstrating their readiness for peace.

President Bio concluded the meeting by reaffirming his commitment to peace and development in Sahn Malen. He expressed hope that the roadmap would lead to a lasting resolution, setting the stage for a peaceful and prosperous future for the chiefdom.
