A high powered delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) led by Mr Tariq Al-Asheen paid a courtesy call on President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma on Thursday 8 February 2018 at State House. The purpose of the meeting was to apprise the president on several development programmes supported by the Emirates and also marked the signing of a cooperation agreement between the First Lady Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma and the Red Crescent, UAE.
President Koroma welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for their support, stating that the support provided was in sync with government’s programmes in meeting the needs of the people. He noted the engagement with the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) and described it as a great intervention in the provision of services that will help to eliminate water borne related diseases affecting women and children. Commending the Emirates for their support in the fight against the unprecedented Ebola Virus Disease, the president described the support to the Ola During Hospital as a great accomplishment in providing quality health services and assured the delegation that the support will get to the targeted beneficiaries. He also expressed hope for enhanced collaboration between the two countries.
Head of Delegation, Mr Tariq Al-Asheen expressed delight to be in Sierra Leone and working with the government of Sierra Leone on several development programmes. He informed the president of a cooperation agreement with the First Lady to support several initiatives. Dr Salim Al-Owais of the Red Crescent, UAE also expressed commitment to working with the government of Sierra Leone particularly supporting the First Lady in vaccination, medical aid among others.
