Two legal practitioners based at 91 Fort Street, Freetown are under investigation for allegedly defrauding vulnerable Sierra Leoneans by promising them overseas opportunities that turned out to be false.

Reports reaching the Forum Newspaper indicate that one of the victims was asked to pay $5,000 USD, whilst another was defrauded over 139 million Leones. The total amount allegedly swindled by these lawyers exceeds 200 million Leones.

The accused lawyers were detained by police for three days on charges of fraud but were later released pending further investigations. According to the Sierra Leone Police, the case file has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

The case has been dragging on since last year, raising concerns over the pace of justice. Despite mounting evidence and public outcry, no significant progress has been made. The slow pace has left victims—ordinary Sierra Leoneans struggling to make a living—feeling abandoned by the system.

As a profession rooted in justice and integrity, the legal fraternity in Sierra Leone must uphold its standards. These allegations, if proven to be true, represent a betrayal of trust that casts a shadow over the entire legal community.

Forum Newspaper is committed to following this case closely and holding authorities accountable to ensure that justice is served. We urge the relevant institutions, including the police, DPP, and the judiciary to fast-track this matter and send a clear message that no one is above the law.

This is not just about recovering stolen money, it is about restoring public confidence in the legal system and protecting vulnerable citizens from exploitation.

For more details on this case and on-going updates, follow our subsequent editions. Justice delayed is justice denied—Forum Newspaper will continue to push for answers until the victims get the justice they deserve.
