Guinea’s transitional leader President Mamady Doumbouya holds President Julius Maada Bio in very high regard, citing his leadership, solidarity, and consistent support to Guinea during its political transition. This was disclosed by Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, during the Government Weekly Press Conference held at the Miatta Conference Hall in Freetown.
Addressing journalists and government communicators, Minister Kabba said the relationship between the two West African leaders has been strengthened by President Bio’s principled stance on regional peace, democratic stability, and dialogue. He noted that President Bio demonstrated genuine solidarity with the people and leadership of Guinea at a critical time, when the country was navigating a delicate transition.
According to the minister, President Bio’s decision to attend Guinea’s inauguration ceremony sent a powerful signal of respect and regional brotherhood. He described the move as a clear demonstration of Sierra Leone’s commitment to good neighbourliness and constructive engagement within the sub region. Minister Kabba said this gesture did not go unnoticed by the Guinean leadership, particularly President Doumbouya, who views it as an act of courage and statesmanship.
The Foreign Affairs Minister further revealed that President Bio has consistently advocated for Guinea’s reintegration into the regional bloc, the ECOWAS Community. He explained that at various regional and diplomatic engagements, President Bio called on fellow leaders to consider the broader interests of peace, stability, and unity in West Africa, while encouraging Guinea to remain engaged with regional norms and processes.
Minister Kabba emphasized that President Bio’s approach reflects Sierra Leone’s foreign policy focus on diplomacy, dialogue, and regional cooperation rather than isolation. He said the government believes that sustained engagement and support are more effective in encouraging democratic progress and long term stability across the region.
Speaking further, the minister said Sierra Leone continues to enjoy warm and respectful relations with Guinea, anchored on shared history, economic cooperation, and cross border ties between their peoples. He added that both countries are committed to strengthening bilateral relations in areas such as trade, security cooperation, and people to people exchanges.
Minister Kabba assured the public that Sierra Leone will continue to play a responsible role in regional affairs, working with partners to promote peace and democratic governance. He concluded that the mutual respect between Presidents Bio and Doumbouya is a positive sign for regional unity and reflects Sierra Leone’s growing influence in diplomatic efforts across West Africa.
The weekly press conference forms part of the government’s commitment to keeping citizens informed on key policy directions and international engagements.
