The Right to Access Information Commission (RAIC) has announced an important extension of the deadline for Public Authorities to submit their Annual Compliance Report (ACR).
Initially set for February 15, 2025, the new deadline is now March 21, 2025. This extension offers public institutions additional time to finalize and submit their reports, ensuring full compliance with the requirements of the Right to Access Information Act of 2013.
RAIC made the announcement in a public notice, explaining that the decision to extend the deadline is designed to allow ‘Public Authorities’ the necessary time for any updates, clarifications, or adjustments that might be needed in their reports. It also provides an opportunity for authorities requiring assistance to reach out and receive support as needed. The Commission’s primary goal is to ensure transparency, accountability, and smooth implementation of the Right to Access Information Act.
“The extension will help Public Authorities submit their reports accurately and in full compliance with the law,” the RAIC emphasized in its statement. The Commission thanked the Public Authorities for their continued cooperation and reminded all stakeholders about the critical importance of meeting the new deadline to fulfill their mandatory obligations.
The Annual Compliance Report is a key component of the country’s commitment to upholding transparency and public access to information. Public Authorities are required by law to submit this report to the RAIC to detail how they have complied with the provisions of the Right to Access Information Act. The report provides transparency into how public institutions handle information requests and manage public data, ensuring that they remain accountable to the citizens they serve.
The RAIC, which was established to promote transparency and safeguard the public’s right to access government information, plays a vital role in overseeing compliance with the Act. This report is a key tool for assessing how effectively Public Authorities are upholding the principles of openness and accessibility to public information.
In addition to the deadline extension, the RAIC has reminded all Public Authorities that they may require further assistance as they prepare their reports. For any questions or clarifications, the Commission has encouraged all relevant stakeholders to reach out to its offices, where staff are available to provide guidance and support throughout the process.
The RAIC has offices across the country, including in the capital city of Freetown, as well as in regional centres in Bo, Makeni, and Kenema. This decentralization of the Commission’s services ensures that Public Authorities in all parts of Sierra Leone have the support they need to meet the new deadline.

The RAIC has urged all relevant institutions to take note of the extended deadline and use the additional time wisely to submit their reports accurately and on time. The Commission’s continued efforts to promote transparency through the Right to Access Information Act have played a crucial role in encouraging good governance practices across Sierra Leone.
As the deadline approaches, the RAIC remains committed to ensuring that public authorities meet their obligations, and it encourages all involved parties to take full advantage of the extension to submit complete and compliant reports.
The Commission also expressed its continued dedication to improving public access to information and ensuring accountability at all levels of government.
