RCBank Celebrates 1st Anniversary of Tree Planting in Petefu, Masiaka

Rokel Commercial Bank-RCBank in collaboration with Keeping Hope Alive Monday 6th July, 2020 celebrated the first anniversary of tree planting exercise at the bank’s Tree Planting Site at Petefu village, Masiaka, Koya Chiefdom, Port Loko district in the North West region.

The occasion saw in attendance the Minister of Environment, Professor Foday Moriba Jaward who in his statement said that environmental issues are at the heart of Government, highlighting that that was why President, Julius Maada Bio formed the Ministry of Environment to address national environmental problems in Sierra Leone.

Prof. Jaward extended Government’s profound thanks and appreciations to the management of RCBank and its partners in the process – Keeping Hope Alive for edging environmental problems. He noted that the initiative toward protecting the environment is a step in the right direction, and encouraged others to follow the good examples of RCBank and Keeping Hope Alive.

He registered Government’s relentless commitments towards taking environmental issues seriously recalling that during his term at the Environmental Protection Agency collaborated with other line institutions for the establishment of an environmental court, citing laws on the environment needed to be full enforced.

The Executive Director of Keeping Hope Alive, Neneh Tunis also thanked RCBank for the partnership, to celebrate the bank’s 1st anniversary of their tree planting site, which according to her clearly shows RCBank’s passion and commitment towards supporting, protecting the environment for the general good as everyone depend on the environment for resources that could be used domestically such as food, water, shelter to name the few.

Speaking on the continuing process on Radio Democracy Good Morning breakfast show on Wednesday 8th July, the Head of Public Relations and Protocol George Spilsbury-Williams said tree planting can support so many other things and that RCBank is open up for firm collaboration with other organizations such Keeping Hope Alive in their tree planting and environmental protections drives.

Mr Spilsbury-Williams explained that the bank is also supporting other partner organizations in the areas of sensitization and public awareness rising on tree planting.

The Head of Public Relations and Protocol said “we invited key customers who are in timber, agriculture to see what RCBank is doing in the area of tree planting.”

He reiterated that the bank is always open up to partner with other organizations who are highly interested in tree planting activities, and encouraged communities at Misiaka and Patefu to be fully engaged in tree planting.
