In our Thursday 19 January 2023 edition, we published an article on our Talking Point column/page with the headline “SLPP Fear Tactics May Cause Voter Apathy in June Polls”.
In the said article, we referred to the security apparatus in the country with special reference to the RSLAF deploying soldiers with firearms on the roads and in communities across the country to mount checkpoints and roadblocks which is tantamount to creating fear that may cause voter apathy in the June polls or national elections in 2023 if not reversed.
FORUM newspaper, being a responsible media outlet in Sierra Leone, would like to make a retraction of that article, which did not go down well with the RSLAF and its High Command.
We first of all want to retract comments made against the security sector and to tender an apology to the RSLAF and its High Command for any inconvenience and embarrassment the article may have caused the RSLAF and the security apparatus of Sierra Leone.
We also want to state that the article intended to create no ill-will against our gallant soldiers, the professional head of the RSLAF and police. Rather the article was meant to promote a serene and tranquil atmosphere which the country’s security apparatus are trying very hard to maintain.
Again, our apologies to all for any inadvertent aversion to RSLAF and the security apparatus the article may have caused.
