The Sierra Leone’s Amputee Football Team has been in full gear in readiness for the historic African Amputee Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The competition will be held in Egypt from April 19th to April 28th 2024. It could be recalled that Sierra Leone host the first ever Africa Nation Amputee Football Tournament and it was won by Ghana and Sierra Leone came third in that particular tournament.
The Sierra Leone’s Amputee team is in group D and will face the likes of Angola, Tanzania, and Rwanda. In all, 16 African teams will be vying for top honours and it would also decide which teams will qualify for the World Amputee Football Federation World Cup 2026.
This marks an historic moment for Sierra Leone’s Amputee Football team. And it will help them to showcase their talent on the international stage.
The Sierra Leone National Amputee Team was founded in 2004, and by then it was mainly for victims of the West African nation’s brutal 11-year civil war. Over the years, the team had comprised dozens of amputees from across the country, offering a space for kinship and shared trauma.
