SALWACO Boardroom – Tuesday July 16th, 2024.
The Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO), Ing. George Lamin Vandi and a cross section of the SALWACO Senior Management Team have welcomed 21 new members of staff at the company. The move is in line with boosting the institution’s human resources and to match the attainment of quality service delivery.
The engagement was called to order by the Human Resources Manager SALWACO, Joe Ansu Foray who introduced the Chairperson of the session, Saffa SK Bockarie, who’s SALWACO’S Director of Planning, Research and Policy. The chair underscored the importance of the occasion whiles pointing out that it was prudent for the recruits to comprehend the company’s policies and to ensure quality delivery.
In his Keynote Address, SALWACO’S Managing Director, Ing. George Lamin Vandi welcomed the new SALWACO personnel and assured them of management’s support to achieve organizational goals. He made a specific reference to the structure of the institution; citing the Ministry, Board, Senior Management and to the rest of the other staff. He encouraged the new SALWACO staff to ask relevant questions and to get reasonable knowledge about the jobs that they’d be required to do. MD Vandi added that it was of essence for all staff to have a welcoming and an industrious attitude at and towards work. He discouraged the idea of not being committed and or spending little or no time at work. He motivated the new recruits to be result driven, whiles assuring that opportunities for growth and development do exist at SALWACO.
Director of Administration, Denis Macavorey admonished the new SALWACO staff to be focused and to prioritize the goals and aspirations of SALWACO. He said that there should be no room for laziness and lethargic dispositions. He called on all SALWACO staff to support and welcome the new staff and in the best interest of the company.
Director of Finance, Frank Lahai Kamara elaborated on the financial structure of the institution whiles stressing on quality control mechanisms and prudent financial services plus expeditions. Such, he said, is done and in the interest of the sustainability and mandate of SALWACO.
Director of Operations, Ing. Abdul Ben Lebbie encouraged recruits to be hardworking and disciplined. He assured of routine checks to enhance transparency, effectiveness, accountability and value for money. He touched on critical engineering assertions and reminded all that the primary function of SALWACO was to provide safe drinking water for people in the provinces in particular.
Director of Project Management, Ing. Yankuba J. Tarrawally described SALWACO as a giant national institution which is estimated to be serving over six (6) million Sierra Leoneans. He said that growth opportunities do exist at the institution, but that personnel would be required to be hardworking, committed and result oriented. He said that the project department works hand in hand with all other departments, noting that all personnel would be utilized to help in efficient delivery.
SALWACO’s Company Secretary, Mayiwa sia Rosemarie Macauley, Esq., assured of her department’s support and encouraged the new SALWACO staff to read the SALWACO Act and to stay informed. She encouraged all to bring legal matters to her attention and to see that all personnel work within the confines of the law.
Stakeholders’ and Media Relations Manager, Mary Mansaray Ngegba congratulated the new staff and suggested how SALWACO was looking forward to progressively utilize their services and expertise. She touched on the stakeholders’ engagement and media/agenda setting urge of the company, noting that the sharing of accurate, balanced and credible information is at the heart of what her unit does. She encouraged the new staff to feel at home and to see that they are able to deliver accordingly.
Marketing Manager, Mohamed Aziz Waggay said that the new SALWACO personnel came at a time when revenue generation was at the heart of the company’s policies and operations. He encouraged all to learn on the job and to see that SALWACO moves towards being independent and sustainable.
Speaker after speaker touched on the need to be hardworking, committed and result oriented plus to see that SALWACO becomes sustainable. Directors and almost all speakers informed how most of them had passed through several stages before getting to top management, whiles assuring the new team members that with hard work and dedication, they could do same. The urge to generate revenue, secure and collect SALWACO debts etc did come out in all of the discussions and management promised to give the necessary support as required to see that quality results are achieved.
The new SALWACO staff were given an opportunity to ask questions and make comments and a photo session ended the one-day engagement.
