The 2018 presidential candidate of the opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party Dr Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara has urged eligible Sierra Leonean voters to come out in their numbers to register.Samura Kamara made this statement on Wednesday 7 September 2022, while getting registered together with his wife Mrs Elizabeth Massah Samura Kamara at the Malama Armature Football Association (MAFA) community playing field in Lumley, Freetown.
After getting registered, the presidential aspirant thanked the workers at the registration centre for their service to the nation.
He also thanked people who were in the queue for their exuberance in trying to exercise their civic right even though the process is challenging at the centre due to inadequate computers to capture the registration process.
He told the people to exercise patience and restraint, to be peaceful and to refrain from violence, adding that it is a must that all eligible voters should register in order to be eligible to participate in the forthcoming elections.
He called on the Chief Electoral Commissioner of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) and the entire ECSL staff to be timely in addressing the challenges that are ongoing in the process, especially involving first-time voters.
Dr Kamara said some of the voter registration machines being used are very slow for the process, adding that despite the challenges, the ECSL should ensure that every Sierra Leonean that has reached or will reach the voting age by 24 June 2023 should register.
