The Stroke Association of Sierra Leone (SASL) has discovered an expired health drug called Amlodipine anti-hyper-tension tablet which has been in circulation in Sierra Leone.
The drug is a key component of stroke treatment and its contamination can result in serious complication for unsuspecting Stroke Survivors.
SASL is calling on the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone, Standard Bureau and the Ministry of Health and Sanitation to mount a robust inspection and investigation of health drugs importation Companies and Pharmacies to seize and destroy expired and prosecute culprits.
SASL at the same time is calling on medical professionals to refrain from prescribing Amlodipine drug and use alternatives, until this critical issue is resolved.
Stroke Survivors and the general public are particularly advised to also refrain from taking this drug and are alerted about the dangers of buying it.
SASL commends the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone for raising the alarm of the expired Amlodipine drug and urges it to expand its investigations to sanitize the medical drugs market in Sierra Leone.
