“EVEN IF JESUS CHRIST COMES THE COUNTRY WILL STILL REMAIN WHERE IT IS,” Chief Minister.
We in this medium hereby condemn the statement made by Chief Minister, Dr David Moinina Sengeh during an interview on AYV TV. FORUM NEWS SL believes that the New Direction under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio should be capable of providing basic amenities to his people. This is more so when the president made a strong declaration on three peaceful democratic wars. President Bio made this declaration during his inauguration period. He said:
During my campaigns and since my election, I have said time and time again that this is not going to be the Business-as-Usual Politics and Governance of the state. My new Government is therefore launching 3 peaceful democratic wars: First, a War on Indiscipline; Second, a War on Corruption; and Third, a War on Poverty. These Peaceful democratic wars on Indiscipline, Corruption and Poverty will define my tenure of Office and I am determined to deliver on my promises. Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, I will provide the disciplined leadership to drive and sustain our New Direction revolution. To make this change possible, my Government will tirelessly work for and remain committed to inclusive politics; inclusive development; inclusive economic growth and inclusive governance.
His statement has boldly told us that the Chief Minister Dr Sengeh is not capable or fit for the purpose of his task. Why is he making such statement now? Why he did not make such statement during elections campaign? FORUM NEWS SL demands that the Chief Minister retract his blasphemous statement and tender a public apology to Sierra Leoneans and the global Christian community.
It is imperative that we hold our leaders accountable for their words and actions, especially when they have the potential to cause harm and divisions within society. Baseless accusations against religious institutions do not only tarnish their reputations but also undermine the fabric of trust and harmony upon which our society thrives.
Dr Sengeh’s accusations, particularly on this issue, have drawn criticisms. The public is calling on Mr Bio to fire his Chief Minister, alongside efforts to address the systemic issues/problems in Sierra Leone.
Such statement has vividly expose failures and shown that there will be no positive change from this government. Dr Senheg, as a Chief Minister, you are confident for a positive change, so what do you expect from your colleague ministers and Sierra Leoneans at large?
Many have questioned the credibility of the accusations due to immature statement made by Dr. Sengeh. Apart from that, very recently, the same chief Minister made another baseless statement about energy theft by religious institutions. Targeting religious institutions has also been criticized as insensitive and politically charged, further inflaming controversy.
