FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Freetown, Sierra Leone – October 19, 2025 – In a significant step to bolster bilateral ties and environmental cooperation, four distinguished members of the Sino Sierra Leone Alumni Association (SISLAA) departed the shores of Sierra Leone today to participate in a high-level seminar in the People’s Republic of China.
The delegation is set to take part in a two-week seminar focusing on “Biodiversity Conservation under Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality for Belt and Road Countries.” This initiative is a key component of the people-to-people cooperation framework, designed to strengthen the enduring relationship between Sierra Leone and China.
This opportunity comes on the heels of a major recognition for SISLAA earlier this year. During a farewell and welcome reception for 2025 scholarship awardees and returnees at the Bintumani, the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Wang Qing, presented the association with a prestigious “Human Resources Cooperation” plaque. The award symbolizes the Chinese Embassy’s appreciation for SISLAA’s dynamic role in propagating mutual understanding and Chinese ideology within Sierra Leone.
The four representatives embarking on this journey were meticulously selected from the membership based on specific criteria to ensure their expertise and interests align perfectly with the seminar’s critical theme of biodiversity and climate change.
SISLAA Executive on behalf of it’s members expressed profound gratitude to the Chinese Embassy and the Counsellor of the Economic and Commercial Office for providing what we described as a “timely opportunity.” The Executive further voiced its hope that such capacity-building initiatives would be extended to more of its members, particularly those scholarship returnees who have yet to secure employment, thereby directly translating their acquired knowledge into national development.
To conclude, SISLAA will continue re-affirm the association’s unique role: “Remember, nobody tells the Chinese story better than our SISLAA membership.”
