Speculation is mounting within Sierra Leone’s football community as rumours circulate that FC Kallon’s head coach, and former national football legend, Mohamed Kallon, could be set to replace Amidu Karim as the head coach of the Sierra Leone National Men’s Team- Leone Stars.
However, the uncertainty surrounding the situation has left many football fans and analysts questioning why the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has yet to make an official announcement regarding Karim’s position.
For weeks, whispers about Karim’s potential dismissal have gained traction, yet SLFA remains silent on the matter. Many believe that if SLFA indeed plans to replace Amidu Karim, they should have already issued a public statement terminating his contract and clarifying the next steps for Leone Stars.
Sports reporter Ibrahim Jalloh expressed his frustration, saying, “If SLFA wants to change the coach, they should be professional about it. You don’t just let rumours control the narrative. People deserve to know the truth about Amidu Karim’s future with the team.”
Despite the growing speculation, some fans and football enthusiasts still back Amidu Karim, insisting that he has not been given enough time to properly shape the national team. His supporters argue that sacking him without a clear long-term strategy could harm Leone Stars’ progress.
“I believe Karim is doing his best with the resources available,” said football fan Alhaji Bangura. “Instead of removing him, the SLFA should provide better support, including improved player development programs and better facilities. Coaches alone don’t win matches—team management plays a huge role.”
On the other hand, some believe that bringing in Mohamed Kallon could be a step in the right direction. Kallon, a celebrated football icon in Sierra Leone, has the experience, technical knowledge, and global exposure that many feel could transform Leone Stars into a more competitive team. “Kallon has played at the highest level of football. He has international experience and has proven himself with FC Kallon,” said sports journalist Mariama Sesay. “It’s only logical that he takes charge of Leone Stars. He has the passion, the vision, and the leadership to bring change.”
As the football community eagerly awaits clarity from SLFA, many are growing increasingly frustrated by the lack of transparency. Whether the decision is to retain Karim or bring in Kallon, an official statement from the governing body is essential to maintain public trust and ensure stability within the team.
Until an official decision is announced, Amidu Karim remains the head coach of Leone Stars. But with the increasing pressure and widespread speculation, the question remains—when will SLFA finally break its silence?
