Sierra Leone’s economy has been struggling for a while now, with the country facing several challenges such as corruption, high levels of unemployment, poverty, and a lack of infrastructure development. Amidst all these struggles, it is essential to examine which political party will take charge of Sierra Leone’s struggling economy in 2028.
The two dominant political parties in Sierra Leone are the All People’s Congress (APC) and the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). The SLPP is the ruling party currently, while the APC is the main opposition party. In the last few years, there have been a lot of debates and discussions on which party would be best suited to take charge of the country’s economy, and these discussions will likely continue up until the elections in 2028.
One of the key issues that both parties face is the need to address corruption. Corruption in Sierra Leone is pervasive, and it has been a significant impediment to economic growth and development over the years. Therefore, whichever party emerges victorious in 2028 must make tackling corruption a top priority. It is necessary to take steps to eliminate corruption in the public sector to ensure that the country’s resources are being used appropriately.
Another issue that both parties will need to address is unemployment. Sierra Leone has one of the highest youth unemployment rates in Africa, with many young people unable to find work. To combat this problem, the government will need to provide opportunities for job creation, such as investing in skills training, supporting entrepreneurship, and attracting foreign investors.
Infrastructure is another area that needs urgent attention in Sierra Leone. Poor infrastructure can be a significant obstacle to economic growth. Therefore, whichever political party takes charge of the economy in 2028; they must focus on developing essential infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and energy to improve local communities’ access to services.
Both parties have different approaches to governance and how they plan to handle these issues. The SLPP has shifted focus on private sector-led growth to create jobs, while the APC has emphasized on instantaneous change and pushing for government’s intervention to create employment opportunities. It is essential to note that both parties have their strengths and weaknesses.
Sierra Leone’s struggling economy requires a lot of attention and hard work from the government. Which political party takes charge in 2028 will have a significant impact on the country’s future economic growth. Both the APC and the SLPP must show optimism and transparency to gain trust from Sierra Leoneans. The issue of corruption, youth unemployment, and infrastructure development must be at the top of the agenda for whichever party wins in 2028. It is up to Sierra Leoneans to make the right decision in choosing the political party to lead them into the future.
