The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have intensified their ongoing crackdown on narcotic drugs, resulting in the arrest of six suspects in separate operations in the Southern Region.
Four individuals, including one female, were apprehended in Moyamba on Monday, 3rd November 2025, during a targeted police operation aimed at disrupting the illegal drug trade in the district. According to police sources, the suspects were found in possession of quantities of a substance believed to be Kush, a synthetic drug that has ravaged communities across Sierra Leone in recent years.
In a related development, officers from the Bo East Police Division conducted another successful operation in Bo City, where they arrested two suspects, a male and a female, for possession of the same illegal substance. The arrests were made following credible intelligence that led police to a suspected distribution point within the city.
The operations in both Moyamba and Bo are part of a broader national campaign launched by the Sierra Leone Police to combat the growing menace of drug abuse, particularly the proliferation of Kush. The police have stepped up surveillance, community patrols, and intelligence-sharing to identify, arrest, and prosecute individuals involved in the production, sale, or use of narcotics.
Speaking on the recent arrests, a police spokesperson reiterated the institution’s determination to protect young people from the devastating effects of drug abuse. The spokesperson described Kush as a “national tragedy” that continues to destroy lives, weaken families, and threaten public order. He assured the public that the police will continue to act swiftly against anyone found dealing in or using narcotics.
The Sierra Leone Police further emphasized that these arrests send a clear message to individuals engaged in the drug trade that the law will not spare them. The institution called on members of the public to cooperate by sharing timely information that could help expose those involved in the distribution and consumption of dangerous drugs.
The SLP also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining momentum in the nationwide operation, working closely with other security agencies, community leaders, and civil society organizations. The force pledged to sustain intelligence-led policing as a strategy to dismantle criminal networks involved in drug trafficking.
As the crackdown continues, the police have urged young people to resist peer pressure and avoid involvement in drug-related activities, stressing that the fight against Kush requires the collective effort of every Sierra Leonean.
