At least six police personnel and several civilians who died during the August 10th 2022 economic hardship demonstration have been given state burial.
On 23 August 2022 they received a solemn State-led funeral and signing of book of condolences for the loss of the gallant police personnel.
There were immediate claims of responsibility from both sides, after the violent protest, in which government properties, vehicles, police stations and posts, as well as police quarters were targeted.
The burial ceremony took place at the Police Training School, Hastings Village in Freetown.
According to President Bio, the death of the police personnel has earned them such state-led funeral and it was “the very least” they deserved. He consoled the bereaved families to take heart, saying that all is not lost.
The ceremony was attended by the vice president of Sierra Leone, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, First Lady Madam Fatima Maada Bio, Senior SLP Officers and some other Government officials.
