SLAJ President Ahmed Sahid Nasralla was a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Communication, Media, and Broadcasting at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Sierra Leone at Hill Station, Freetown on 30th May 2024.
In the highly interactive lecture, Nasralla shared his experience as a journalist with over 20 years of practice, his experience as SLAJ President, and prepared students’ minds for a successful journalism career after university.
He challenged students to find a niche and specialize and urged them to learn to work together in teams and avoid one-man endeavors.
The SLAJ President also stressed the importance of professionalism, ethical conduct, integrity, honesty, respect, passion, entrepreneurship skills, and commitment to your work as prerequisites for a successful career after university.
Students shared their perspectives about the media landscape in Sierra Leone and the role of SLAJ in promoting press freedom and ensuring the safety and security of journalists. They also debated what they described as the new concept of ‘media poverty’ in the country.
After the lecture, the SLAJ President, and his Vice President Sahr James Bangah, met with officials of Limkonkwing and discussed the need for collaboration and partnership in specialized training and capacity building.
Both parties agreed to forge a partnership based on an MoU to be agreed on as soon as possible.
